Reaching out to help

CARLSBERG Malaysia recently launched the ‘Back to School’ project at SJK (T) Glenmarie, which was co-organised by the Tamil Educational Research Foundation of Malaysia (Terfom) with the endorsement of Persatuan Guru Besar SJK (T) Malaysia/ PIBG SJK (T).

The main aim is to provide free school supplies to underprivileged pupils who have commenced their formal education.

“We believe that every child should have the fundamental right and equal opportunity to education. For many underprivileged children, education is the only means for securing improved opportunities. ” Carlsberg managing director Soren Ravn said.

“Carlsberg has decided to embark on this nationwide project to support these children,” he added.

He said this was the second consecutive year Carlsberg had implemented the project and it intended to continue on a long-term basis.

At the launch, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk T. Murugiah, Ravn and Terfom CEO R. Rajan presented 100 schools bags to selected pupils from SJK Tamil Glenmarie, SJK Tamil Midland Shah Alam, SJK Tamil Setia Alam, SJK Tamil Bukit Rajah, SJK Tamil Ebor Shah Alam, SJK Tamil Rasak and SJK Tamil Hicom Shah Alam.

Carlsberg and Terfom will be hosting 11 presentation ceremonies to reach out to around 2,000 Tamil school pupils.

In December 2010, Carlsberg had contributed 2,000 school bags to the children from local communities in Sarawak and Sabah.
